If you haven't seen this film already then it’s definitely worth a look, based on the best selling children’s book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ (Maurice Sendak), it tells the story of a frustrated young boy; Max. Though perhaps a little long and not quite what I was expecting (though to be honest I’m not sure what I was anticipating) this film captures the essence of childhood, demonstrating not just the fun which can be found through imagination and adventure but also loneliness and despondency.
The ‘Wild Things’ themselves are remarkable, as a viewer I was able to empathise with each one forgetting they were a product of computer animation and actors wearing costumes. The entire picture is skilfully ‘shot', and the way light has been used in different frames is beautiful.
Don’t write this off as simply a children’s film.
